Performative lecture
ELLE invites you to a performative lecture — or perhaps, a dinner show unlike you’ve ever seen before… Together with the “audience”, she investigates the delicate yet powerful moment of ‘Risk’. What does ‘risk-taking’ mean, what necessities need to be in place for a risk to unfurl, and when can we (allow ourselves to) take risk? What does risk disrupt and expose within ourselves as well as the structures we live in?
She sees the body as a place where resistance and transformation can start, take shape, and grow further. In her work, she confronts hegemonic constructs of race, gender, and beauty by interrogating Western (aesthetic) paradigms and their histories of exclusion. Her works often come back to dualities of visibility and representation: how they operate under
the weight of racialised and gendered ideals and function as a (potential) force of liberation ánd constraint, how these seemingly opposing movements can occur at the same time, and what it might mean to occupy both of these places simultaneously.
